Shaft Grounding Rings
Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s) provide some real benefits to any facility, energy savings, process control and more. However, they can create problems for the bearings in both the electric motor and the equipment the motor is coupled to. By varying the frequency, an electrical discharge can occur. This discharge can cause an Electical Discharge Machining (EDM), that over time, can cause premature bearing and system failure. The best way to prevent this discharge from occurring is installing shaft grounding rings on your electric motors. Contact PDC to learn more about EDM and how you can protect your motors!
